Hair removing method.?

Has anybody tried IPL? Is it effective? If yes, how many sessions do u need to go? There are also waxing, shaving, manual hair removal (plucking) and electronic hair remover.. which is better.

Hair removing method.?

I have had very good results with laser hair removal.

After four to five treatments per area, I am pretty much hair free on my legs, bikini line and underarms.

From what I was told at the clinic, effectiveness varies. Luckily for me, I have very pale skin and very dark hair -- which is considered the ideal for treatment. A friend of mine who is also very pale, but with blonde hair did not have as good of a result.

Unluckily for me, I am allergic to the histamines caused by the laser essentially burning the follicle and experience fairly painful swelling and redness in the treated area for about seven to ten days. This has kept me from getting any laser removal on my face.

The treatments are not overly painful, but they are not pain free. I describe it as being continuously popped with a rubber band. It is also not inexpensive. Here in San Antonio, it cost about $300 for the complete treatment for just the underarms.

Prior to the laser, I also waxed, shaved, plucked, and used an electronic hair remover. Each was a either a hassle with time, not economical, had a disappointingly short lasting effect or a combination of all three.

Waxing lasts a few weeks, but over time is actually more expensive than laser sessions. (A leg wax and Bikini wax at a salon is well over a hundred dollars after adding in the tip and I required them every four to six weeks. Three years of waxing was the equivalent of the five sessions my legs required to become hair free with the laser.)

Shaving was frustrating because I would have stubble in 24 hours. Also, it more than doubled my time in the shower every day.

Plucking and electronic hair removal never really worked well for me.

Shop around for the laser treatments though. There is a huge variance in cost from clinic to clinic. Some places here cost two or three times more than I paid for the same treatment.

Hope this helps.

Edit: When I say three hundred for the underarms -- that was for six treatments at fifty dollars per treatment. Also -- if I ever need to go back for an additional treatment due to regrowth, I pay a greatly reduced fee. I think the both legs were two fifty per treatment from ankle to groin. Again, it costs well over a hundred for a wax and the results do not last like the laser does.
