Will color remover work if i wait a few months after permanent dying my hair?

I just used a permanent dye and my dad said it will never come out. I like it, but will i be able to remove it or at least lighten it (my natural color is only a couple shades lighter) if i keep it in for a few months? i really like it so i just want to remove it when my roots come in
