It is hard to tell you what to do without seeing your hair, but I can tell you that you can not take color out of your hair with color. You may get it to fade a little. The only thing that will get the black out of your hair will be a bleach. Your best bet would be to go to Sally's and ask for their help. If you do go with a bleach or lightening system, be sure to put on ends first. You will probably then have to tone it with a semi or demi permanent color. You DONT want to use ash unless you are red or gold. Ash is NOT a neutral color it is GREEN. Green counter acts with the red and will tone it down, that is why I say only use ash on it if it is red or gold. Best of luck.
P.S. I am a licensed cosmetologist for 13 years. When it comes to fixing a color such as this, there are so many steps and it can get kinda hairy ;) that is why the salon is quoting you so high.
Oh and also, just because the box says it will wash out, as you know, it doesn't always. If your hair is light brown to blond, then it will grab and stay when the color is soo dark, especially if your hair is chemically lightened.
Again best of luck and let me know how it all turns out.

Hair Troubles HELP!?
Wow...Maybe you should try dying it back your original color, it may take a few times though
Hair Troubles HELP!?
Clairol came out with a new hair dye over the summer that is perfect for dark hair. I'm a dark brunnette and I have used this product since the summer time and I love it. Right now am a Ash blond. If you want to lighten up your hair try the Clairol UL63 which is the Light Golden Brown. It will take out the black immediately and they only cost less than $10.
Good luck!

Since you can't afford to go to the salon, I would suggest an illuminator. They have these at Sally's beauty supply under the name Luminize. It lightens your hair color one level every time you use it. You could also use a color stripper to try and strip the color out of it. If you decide to put another color on it make sure that it has ASH in front of it because that is a neutral and it will keep your hair from turning odd colors like green, purple, etc.

if you dont want to go to the hair salon then just dye it back or leave it alone and wait until your real color turnes black.
ohhh yea and just a thought why did you dye your hair if you knew it was not going to come of.
