well this is my situation... i currently have blonde highlights over my natural black/dark brown hair, and i want to dye my whole hair light brown then put blonde highlights. but im not sure what to do. should i just by light brown hair dye and dye over my current blonde highlights or should i by permanent hair dye remover, then dye my hair light brown... and once i go about buying light brown hair dye is there a specific brand i have to buy? since i have natural black hair i want the hair dye to be strong enough so that it can turn my black hair into light brown hair :)

there's a thing called colorzap by loreal, and it lifts all un natural dyes from the hair, leaving it ready to re-dye whatever color you choose.

I would just put dye, over it...because you can over do it and dry your hair out. Use WELLA, its the best, and just put a light golden brown over it and you will probably be able to keep your highlights. Good luck

Well, considering you have black hair you will need to get your hair bleached. As it doesn't work if your dye a dye over it. You may get a tint but really...it doesn't fade nice.
Bleach your hair. Use the appropriate volume for your hair make up. Wait for awhile, apply the light brown hair dye in. Leave some bits of hair out so it doesn't get dyed (if you want highlights. You could wrap it up with a bobby pin in some plastic).
Schwarzkopf have good hair dye brands. I really recommend them.
If you have not had in experience in doing the following, I really recommend you get it done professionally. For your hair and self esteems stake.
Trust me on that.
Good luck.
